Help Save Lake Michigan

Dear Grant Park friends,

Please help Lake Michigan!

The Grant Park Advisory Council and Grant Park Conservancy are looking for volunteers this Saturday, July 21 anytime between 9:00 a.m and 12:00 noon to collect petition signatures or come out and sign a petition at Buckingham Fountain as part of the Chicago Park District's "Save Our Lake Initiative." This effort is part of a larger initiative by the City of Chicago to stop the BP (British Petroleum) plan explained below.

As many of you may have heard or read in the news this week, there is a planned expansion at BP's oil refinery just around the bend from Chicago in Whiting, Indiana. As part of this deal, Indiana will allow BP to release large additional amounts of ammonia and industrial sludge that will pollute Lake Michigan. Today's Chicago Tribune Metro section also contains an extensive article.

Petition volunteers or those coming to sign a petition, need to meet at Buckingham Fountain where petition volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, petition forms, clip boards, pens, and further instructions. Thank you!

TO VOLUNTEER, GET A PETITION, OR FOR MORE INFORMATION:
E-Mail Bob O'Neill at: boboneill@grantparkconservancy.com or call: (312) 829-8015, or (312) 927-6795 (cell)

Lake Michigan Will Thank You...
