Senate Bill 2691
comes from the Senate

SB2691 with
SENATE Committee
Amendment #1
- Increases “Alternative General Homestead
Exemption” to a $60,000 maximum
- Creates “Returning Veterans’ Homestead
Exemption”
- Extends the alternative exemption by an
additional 3 years

Senate Bill 2300
comes from the House

SB2300 with
HOUSE Amendment #1

- Maintains “Alternative General Homestead
Exemption” at a $20,000 maximum
- No returning veteran’s exemption.
- Extends alternative exemption by an
additional 3 years

SB2691 PASSED in the Senate and was sent to the House, where it sits in Committee. Will it be called for a vote?

SB2300 FAILED in the House, but was placed on “Consideration Postponed,” which means it may be voted on again.

But if SB2300 passes it must go back to the Senate for “Concurrence” – the Senate must vote to approve the amendment. Will the Senate agree to the House amendment?

Senate President Emil Jones, Jr. and House Speaker Michael Madigan
are not seeing eye-to-eye, and we are caught in the middle!
