The GAP Community Organization was started by Tom Gary, Murphy Hughes, Langston, Leonard Hillary, Gwen Hillary, Elmer Taylor, and others (members of Christ The Mediator Church). Tom Gary was the first president.
The organization started in 1983 February 2nd.
The organization continues to make building community (people) the main theme. There has been over $100M of development from rehabbed to new construction of residential housing. There are many starts from 1st urban parade of houses 1992, help creation of Walk of Fame on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., The Summer Sizzle for more than 20 years until COVID, and many elements the enhanced the built environment in Chicago.
